NEWS

2's and 3's Promoted!

The fantastic news from the weekends results and grey clouds is that both our 2nd and 3rd XI's have been promoted to Division 2 and 7 of the East League respectively.

Unfortunately the 2nds had been called off on saturday so had to await the outcome of the Drummond Trinty game. Unluckily for the DT's the weather called their game off which confirmed the promotion of the 2nd team.

This Saturdays games will be vital in determining who will be champions though as both the 2's and Penicuik are both undefeated on 100%. Penicuik are 6 wins from 6 while the mighty 2's are 9 from 9.

Penicuik have the task of overcoming 3rd placed Drummond Trinty on the final day while the 2's have bottom of the ladder Stewarts Melville at home.

Skipper Kevin West had the following to say "I'd like to congratulate all the guys who have put in a fantastic effort this year for the 2nd XI. Everyone has contributed and we deserve our promotion.

I'm very proud that we have achieved or target of promotion after narrowly missing out last year. The team we have built is fantastic and will no doubt grow from strength to strength as it takes on Division 2 next year. However I would like to remind guys that we still have one final game left and that although Stew Mel are bottom of the table they will be no walk over.

A massive thank you and congratulations to 3rd XI as they have been excellent in supporting us this year.

I'd also like to congratulate Penicuik on being promoted as well, hopefully we'll get to play them next year, weather permitting"

The other fantastic news is that 3rd XI also achieved promotion on Saturday with a fantastic 4 wicket victory with an away win over Preston Village 2's. The 3's kept the home side to 83 for 9 from their 40 overs and where guided by Skipper Al Moore to promotion to Division 7. A full match report will follow.

The 3's are in a similar position to the 2's and require another win on Saturday before they can be confirmed as champions.

An excellent achievement for the club and with the weekends result for the 1st XI there is still hope for them as they play 2nd placed Dunfermline this coming Saturday.

This weekend will be very interesting indeed!
