NEWS Macca’s Gonna Get YaJuly 26 – FORTRESS GYLE – Under humid skies the Peebles skipper won the toss and decided to have a bat on Saturday, a decision that looked pretty good after three overs. With both Chappers and Fraggle struggling to come to terms with the prodigious swing available, a succession of wides, and clips through the gully area saw County race to 16 in quick time. With JK getting noised up over a couple of fairly harsh wides, some semblance of control was established and slowly the pressure began to build. Fraggle finally breaking through, as Harrison snicked one to JK. The introduction of Macca and Ringles saw things remaining tight, with Macca in especially good form, hitting the deck with pace and hostility. Though it was to be Ringles who got the next wicket, in his second over. He began it with a dot, Wolfe-Murray paddling it to the slip gully region as he’d been doing all day. The second ball was much the same, cue Fraggle, “There’s a catch Macca was continuing to do everything but get a wicket, and the younger Peebles batsmen were having difficulties with the pace. None more so than Ramsay, who saw one short pitched ball make a bee line for his head. It nestled itself between the grille and peak of his helmet. The youngster retired hurt, with a trophy war wound to impress the local ladies. When play resumed, Ringles struck again, although Thornton felt it should have been called as a waist high no ball, it was tight, but he managed to spoon it up to the Classy David Lawrie anyway. From here the Peebles innings fell away, the other half of Team Fraser, Mr Niccol and his spin twin Mooro coming on to take a couple of wickets each, they combined for 11 overs, 4 maidens 4 for 16.
Macca and Frase steadied the ship, before the youngster played too early on his shot and looped a simple catch to slip. 42 for 4 – enter the Moore-inator. Smashing his second ball for 4 he set the tone for the partnership. Macca took the lead role, playing some lovely shots to the boundary. 20 runs coming in two overs as Mooro smashed Anderson for 6. that left just five wanted, Macca levelled the scores with a four, one to win, and Macca gets it into his head that he’s “going to be out this ball”. Self fulfilling propgecy ahoy. It was left to Bonzo to hit the winning run. Kudos to the Classy David Lawrie for dropping down the order, giving guys a chance of time in the middle in preparation for the run in. Classy stuff from a Classy guy. So another win, the Wee Threes remain top of the table by one point. Edinburgh South next up. Peebles County 2
